What happens when a film becomes more than something you watch?

For the first time, Bath Film Festival’s Supper Club comes to BLOC — bringing film, food, conversation and a little bit of experimentation to the table.

For 2026, we’re heading to Japan with Tampopo (1985), the joyful cult classic that turned ramen into cinema history. Part comedy, part culinary adventure, it follows a widowed ramen shop owner and the unlikely characters who join her quest to create the perfect bowl.

But Tampopo is about more than ramen. It’s about obsession, generosity, connection and the simple pleasure of eating together. It’s exactly the kind of film that belongs around a table.

Created in partnership with Bath Community Kitchen, the evening begins with a welcome drink from Independent Spirit and film-inspired canapés before we settle in to watch one of cinema’s great food films.

Then the screen gives way to the table.

We’ll come together for a shared vegetarian ramen supper inspired by the film — thoughtfully prepared, served communally and designed to spark conversation.

A film. A meal. A room full of people. One slightly experimental evening at BLOC.

Bath Film Festival’s Supper Club is presented in partnership with Bath Community Kitchen, whose work explores how food can support physical and mental wellbeing and bring people together.
